Depends on where I am, but I don't see anything with wearing them. Most of the time when im out I don't wear them, but other places I always do.

Ugh yeah, that's kind of annoying. Why do people feel that need? It's like they hate us or something.

Who voted that it's dangerous? LOL.
Whoever voted for that should be banned.

But seriously, why wouldn't it be acceptable?
Unless you were in school and in class listening to a lecture...

YOU are wise....perhaps I am wise guy.
Have you noticed that when somthing you enjoy is questioned or considered bad by others a defense is established ?
Consider this....
Headphones and iems worn in public completely shut off a major sensory organ (ears). For all practical purposes youre deaf or at least hearing impared as you wander around the city streets or bicycle or drive a motor vehicle ect. on top of this you may be distracted by your ipods click wheel (selecting your next tune).
Is this not a hazard? Deaf people ?? without training ..driving , operating cranes , walking in front of emergency vehicles not being able to hear the sirens.....the cries of people in need of help! Should I start a program of public awareness to this new problem?
Maybe not me , but I am sure there are some that hate your headphones , and mine too ..and I smoke.

my stance
1. headphones while driving is too distracting=bad/dangerous driver
2. headphones while walking and bussing/subwaying=good, and iems protect you from loud horseless-wagon operaters.

I dont think headphones were " invented" with the idea in mind that people would wander around wearing them in public .
Headphones are a way to enjoy music in a private setting while relaxing....not to block out street noise while commuting. Im sure the future will show many accidents to be caused (or not prevented) by public headphone use.

Well, me sitting down in a restaurant with headphones on isn't gonna damage other people's health. I just don't see smoking and public headphone use as the same thing. People who use headphones when they shouldn't are idiots in themselves, it's not the phone's fault. If a smoker lights up with people around, being aware that they'll breathe it in, he/she's is knowingly putting innocents' health at risk. As long as people do things responsibly, and in this case only damaging their own body instead of others, then I personally could give a rat's patoot.

I agree with most statements in this thread...

I don't see any serious problems with wearing them in plublic as long as others can't hear them. I absolutely hate when I can hear the anoying noises of someone's headphones so I wouldn't do it to others, I think it's disrespectful and rude.

Wearing headphones while walking isn't a huge issue, IEMs are walking a fine line... You have to make yourself more aware of your surroundings and pay more attention but so far I have had no problems, I'm always a careful pedestrian (not crossing on the do not cross flashing lights, don't start crossing until the light changes to walk etc.) which I think helps but I still try to look around while I cross since I don't have my ears to depend on.

Headphones in public to me are like car stereos to people who drive their car.. I think as pedestrians and public transit users we should have the same freedoms as people in a car to listen to their favorite tunes. If you ask me the higher dollar stereo systems complete with subwoofer(s) etc. are probably even more distracting/dangerous than wearing IEMs or at least on par because there's no way you can hear anything over it when it's pumping.
