I'm a swim coach and can tell you that a product we use here in Australia called Aqua Ear works wonders. Our swimmers who are prone to the sort of problems you experience use this after swimming with great effect. Unfortunately this is an Australian product but I am sure there are US equivalents

Every ear drop I have ever used for this purpose has just been a mix of alcohol and vinegar. Very easy and cheap to mix your own and put it in a dropper. Jumping on one foot with the side of your head that has the water in tilted down usually works pretty well too.

I am curious abot using qtips. I have read in various threads that some people have never cleaned ears with a qtip. Is this true? I have cleaned my ears every other day for over 25 years. I just thought it was weird to read that some people never clean their ears. I couldnt imagine how nasty my wax factory would get going more than a week without cleaning.

Q-tips are risky.  I've heard stories of people rupturing eardrums.  Especially if somebody, or a pet, bumps you while you're cleaning your ears.  Doctors always recommend you don't use q-tips to clean your ear canal, only the outer part.
