If your friend has $160 he should buy a udac and a bravo v2 amp.  The bravo is an insane value at ~$30-60 shipped depending on your winning bid, and the udac is a great value dac.  Drives the HD600 very well IMO, with PLENTY of power left over.  If your friend has some left over money, he should also pick up a better 12AU7 tube to go with it, maybe a mullard short plate or similar.
