Right now i have 2 old well they problee are in the 90s rca floor standing speakers i dont know the model sense it doesn't have nothing on the back.

And while they sound ok but they seem too lack the bass which i like some punching in my music and games, And while my logitech 2300 sub solves that problem i want too clear up the clutter of wires under my desk
biggrin.gif

And i was looking at these 2

Amazon.com: Sony SSF-5000 Floor Standing 3-way Speaker (Pair): Electronics

 Amazon.com: Sony SS-F6000 Floor-Standing 4-Way Speakers with 6.5" Woofer (pair, black): Electronics

The top 2 sony ones which seems the price is pretty cheep for them, But not sure which one i should go for. i can get the top one with the single woofer at my local bestbuy for 159$.

My receiver is a coby 5.1 home theater system which i have it in 2 channel " Ya i know"... But it does have 200 something watts which is weird sense on the box and when i bought it, it said 1000watts... But i guess that was just marketing... But i might pick up a receiver on craglist or something after i get some good floor standing speakers.

Also i like too keep it under 200$ for the speakers because i might get a receiver too and maybe a sub.

also in my local ad i saw these Behringer MS40 Digital Monitor Speakers for 70$ should i pick thoes up? and if i need to i can always add a sub with them or just use my z2300s sub which sounds fine too me.

OH my sound card is a sound blaster x-fi titanium fatal1ty champion which i got in a few days ago and really loving it:)

I would recommend the Polk monitor 50's if your willing to spend a couple bucks more.Could be had for around 190 bucks for a pair of them free ship too.

Ya that is much better price:)  Do they have good bass punch if want too?  Sense im pretty much might just run 2 of thoes on a receiver problee on my coby first till i get a better one and if the bass is pretty good i might due with out a sub.

Also this is my receiver im running right now which is in 2 channel mode http://www.amazon.com/Coby-5-1-Channel-Theater-Upconversion-Digital/dp/B001AG3NIE/ref=dp_return_1?ie=UTF8&n=172282&s=electronics

Ya.. i know a cheapy... But sounds pretty decent.

Is their any cheap receivers that would do the job too power thoes 2 speakers and maybe a sub down the road if needed? Or should i just use the coby till i can afford a good one or find a good one?

edit just saw this and was wondering how that will do? the specs seems pretty good and the price is good too sense bestbuy has it for 150$

They wont produce earth shattering bass on their own but do well in the bass department, it's very accurate bass but not deep sub type extending bass , but pleasing to the ear.IMO i think you will be very pleased with the sound from them as they are very detailed and crisp sounding, great imaging and very balanced. A sub would work wonders with a pair, although a sub works wonders with any entry level floor standing speakers. Polk and other high end speaker companies do make floor monitors with subs built in, but thats irrelevant due to budget issues. As far as receivers go , i wouldn't touch anything other than Denon or onkyo, which if you do a little research you can get some great deals on both. If you have a certain budget on a receiver let me know and i can post a link for a recommendation. I'm using an Onkyo TX-SR702 and love the sound from it. Hope I'm helping. Cheers

Hmm ya i pretty sure im gona buy thoes pokes:)

For a receiver hmm budget is kinda low right now for them so i guess 100$ too 150$? Ya i know thats really low budget for a receiver.. I might could stretch it too 200$ but not sure at the moment..

Wish i wouldve went with a denon or onkyo when i was looking at the coby.. Which was a waste of money with this sense its not really that great sense it makes a hissy noise when no sound is playing threw it..

I did see this one  http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-391-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B003QP3M8I/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1291762326&sr=1-1

But will have too see if i can up my budget for that.   So pretty much the insignia is pretty much no good?

Thanks:)

If you want to pump up the bass definitely upgrade the subwoofer.  A good pair of bookshelf monitor type speakers + a better sub will have more bass than the towers.

The problem is that many "budget" home theater tower speakers do NOT have deep, extended bass... they are meant to be mated with a subwoofer for HT use.

Where do you live?  Often times you can get better deals on used stuff on craigslist.  Since this is a stereo setup, not a complicated HT build, that $150 budget for the receiver could get you a pretty nice older stereo receiver.

If you have a $350-400 budget for everything, used is definitely a good way to go.

Actually, this is exactly my condition.  I need either 2.0 or 2.1 for my room, and my budget was at about the same amount.  I need something that will fit under a desk that's got about a 28'' clearance.  I was looking at a pair of Polk Monitor 50's, but they are too big :S

I was also considering the possibility of getting powered speakers like the Audioengine A5's.

Any thoughts?

Pittsburgh pa, Ya i looked on craglist and saw a very few deals but really not sure whats any good..:\  I really not really looking into very heavy earth shaking bass from the pokes but more than im getting with my very cheap rca floor standing speakers which isint very good with bass if at all.. They pretty much rattle and all that...  And for the sub the logitech z-2300s will hold me over till i get a better sub sense this sub really pounds and shakes the house and i can ajust it when it gets overboard with creative software panel.

I did see this deal  http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ele/2099966946.html Seems pretty nice sense you get the receiver and big speakers but not sure how good thoes and the receiver are.

Edit i think i might just go with a receiver for now cause i just tried some book shelf speakers off my old rca system and these are the speakers sense something pop up in the family and need too save up, atleast for a month or 2 so i get thoes pokes or others than but i think a receiver is more important now.

Heres the speakers i have.

 http://www.classifiedads.com/electronics-ad3606076.htm

well not my pic but they the same. And they sound really good even hooked up too the coby and it has too line connections on each speakers for the speaker and subs on the bottom and they really have some good bass, And ya i really need a new receiver sense when i turn them half way up the coby clicks and skips till i turn them down... they say kevlar too and i herd thoes was pretty good.

So what do you think about the dennon receiver i listed for 200$?

yikes, I wouldn't recommend putting towers UNDER the desk!  Are your ears in your knees?
tongue_smile.gif

I would instead rather go with a small pair of monitors on top of the desk with a subwoofer down below.

The A5's sound awesome from what I've heard....

The first deal is the cheapest way to rock the house.  It's a basic stereo receiver and those are older speakers, but they will go BOOM real nice.  It's not going to be an "audiophile" setup but they will rock.

The Denon 391 is fine for a basic 5.1 HDMI receiver.  It's a little underfeatured for a full HT setup (it lacks Audyssey room calibration, video conversion, etc) but to just power some speakers off a computer it will do fine.  It's honestly probably overkill unless you will expand to surround sound.... if you'll only be rocking 2-channel I would just get a cheap stereo receiver or an older digital receiver.  Do you even need HDMI inputs for this setup?  If not you'd be better off with an older multich receiver which has beefier amps, rather than a bargain basement entry-level unit that is current.

This is a modern Harman Kardon receiver, cheap and will rock: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ele/2073289898.html

Another HK, this one a multichannel unit, but more power than that entry-level Denon: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ele/2072644824.html

Not sure exactly what model this is but it's an older, but higher end Denon and cheap: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ele/2094788543.html

Like I said, if you are only going to go 2-ch for now I would get the cheapest receiver that will power things and spend more on speakers.

Here's a great deal on a pair of Def Tech towers for $250: http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ele/2076602324.html

Those will dust the entry-level Polks.

I just emailed the person for this one http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/ele/2094788543.html which you linked on the bottom. Sense he posted it this month so it might not be sold the other mightve been sold but if this person doesin't get back i email the others.

Ya its mainly gonna be two channel right now but i do want a receiver that can power a sub too if needed in the future., So im not sure if a 2 channel receiver has that too? Or too power the speakers i have now which has subs that uses their own wires. and might want too go surrounds in the future but problee in months .

Hdmi could be usefull sense i can run my game systems off of it, But its not really required.

Also is it best too use optical? instead of a rca too 3.5mm cable?
