This is waaayyyy off topic, but I'd appreciate some assistance from the good folks at this forum.

For one of the clinical toxicology courses we teach, we throw in a little entertainment that's (hopefully!) educational. We do a Jeopardy style game for one class.

We divide the students up into three groups, the display a grid on a screen with categories and points like in Jeopardy, then we go to town just like a team version of Jeopardy. The students have a great time, plus it's an opportunity for them to do something a bit different from the usual drudgery of class.

We're always looking for new info for this game... new references to popular culture, music, movies, current events, etc. that have a toxic connection. The old stuff is fun, but we always try to include some more current stuff where possible.

Examples: there was an episode of "Desperate Housewives" where one of the characters started taking her kids hyperactivity medicine; the poisoning of Victor Yushchenko with dioxin, etc.

So... does anyone know of any new music that has a tox connection? We've got plenty of older music references, but the students generally don't know the oldies that well (e.g., we've used one question for the past four years and none of the students has EVER gotten it... Graham Parkers Mercury Poisoning... we even play part of the song as an "Audio Daily Double").

Would appreciate it if folks could pass along ideas/suggestions for this game: banderso at rx dot umaryland dot edu

Thanks in advance!

I did a quick search and found this website which may be of some use to you, it seems to be pretty on-target with what you need... but it's a book =/

Can't particularly think of any songs with tox references at the moment, sorry.

Carry on!

BO: Thanks for the link!
I actually already have the book... have used some info from the book in past years, but it's a bit too obscure for 3rd year pharmacy students. Heck, it's too obscure for most folks that work in poison centers! But, it's still entertaining and a worthwhile reference.

BTW: there are a number of songs/bands with toxic themes...

Example of one of the questions we pose to the students:

Fill in the blank for these bands or musicians whose names have a toxic metal reference:

Queen Singer Freddy ______ (Mercury)
___ Zeppelin (Led)
___ Maiden (Iron)

Students had trouble with this question last year.... guess we keep them pretty busy in pharmacy school.
