I'm curious about trying out the W5000's but I was wondering what you guys' opinions are on how it mates with a 6SN7 PPX3 SLAM. I'm also SUPPOSEDLY getting a new Storm Digital DAC if you're curious about my source. Thanks

The PPX3 SLAM mates exceedingly well with any headphone I have used with the amp. However, I have not used the W5000, specifically, with the PPX3. But Grados/ Senns/ AKG etc... all sound at or near their best with this amp. The PPX3 is one of the least picky amps in regard to headphones I have come across. The SLAM is also one of the best amps I tried with the L3000.

I listened to a W5000 on my setup...but I can't give you a convincing review. I just found I'm not an Audio Technica fan. I think when I compared it to some other amps, it still retained the house sound....and with the AT house sound, I find the mids to be odd. Something about ATs, but I only hear bass and high treble, but not much middle resolution: on all their phones. So an amp or source won't totally change something that my ears don't seem to be tuned for

Honestly, what I think the SP gave the W5000 compared to other amps was some bass slam...why I like SP amps is that they still preserve some of the detail as well. They mate well with my Senns and Grados.

I did not use w5000 with PPX3 Slam, but other SP Amps I tried do not match well with w5000, frankly results are fairly poor (collapsed soundstage and sporadic bass).

Should work very well. Refer to my sig for reference. Get TSRP 6SN7GT driver tube with a pair of Ken-Rad VT-231's for outputs.

Wait, do you intend on using it for metal? xD Cause that is not the best idea, it sounds good when matched with a juicy amp but you can do better with a Denon I'd imagine.

I can't comment on the W5000 and PPX Slam exactly, but I really enjoy the W5000 on my Singlepower Extreme. All things considered, I prefer the Extreme over the GS-1 when it comes to the W5000's.

They're wonderful headphones, the best I've ever heard, but I have to agree that they're probably not the best choice for heavy metal.
