Anyone had experience with the in-line headphone volume controls offered by these manufacturers? Is there much sonic degradation from using them? Much differnce among the units?

(I am driving my Sennheisers from the analog outputs of my Theta Basic IIIa DAC. Good sound, but too loud.)

I've had the Radio Shack and Sennheiser volume controls. I wouldn't waste the $5 or so for the rat shack control for any kind of quality headphone setup. It is very cheaply made, I had one break on me shortly after I bought it. The Sennheiser volume control is very nice, probably the best available (of the three anyways), but it has about 25-30 feet of cable attached which was a pain for me. I shortened the cable (not easy cable to work with) to about 4 or 5 feet. It appears to be the same cable as supplied with their 580/600 headphones.
