I'm finding iTunes volume control clunky and stepped---maybe Audion 3.02 is a little better. Is there another way to do this--for example: build a passive volume control; or the new ASL products: Reference Tool, Signature (if I knew what they did: scant info from ASL and get runtime Java error on my browser); or buy headphone amp--porta corda, headroom portable or have the Meta made. (BTW, who is the member that's constructing Meta's for head-fi members.)

Somewhat adverse to spending serious money when the sound source itself is so compromised. Well, I assume it's compromised: actually the ER-6's sound great on classic trumpet. But the skipping and non-fluid volume control are annoying.

Many thanks,
