How do the taxes work in the Philippines? In some countries the taxes only apply to imports with a value >200 bucks.

Anything worth less than $25 gets taxed like it's worth $25, and the import fees are 100% of the price because this country has too many Communists who would march off to Switzerland and NY to throw rocks at the WTO and were just happy when the towers went down, because the true Axis of Evil is the joint cries of "Workers Unite!" and can't put the other one here because it's not allowed to discuss such on Head-Fi, although Schiit using the same category of names is allowed, but you can probably guess what it is based on the initials A.A.

Oh and there's a clause in the law that basically can be shortened into "Customs Agent reserves the right to call bullschiit on whatever is declared in official documents," like if it's used or even an RMA item. Most famous case among audiophiles here is one guy ordering rare "candy" capacitors (by rare I just mean they're hard to find locally) and got charged $25, when he paid $20 for the lot; another one is how an item was shipped out for repair under warranty, manufacturer replaced the unit, and his documentation when shipping the old item was met with "yeah but it's not the same serial number, can't you see that, you bonehead? so this item gets a tax on it because it's not the same! it's new! it's not repaired!"

Good luck people from Philippines, seems being an audio lover would cost as twice there than many other places...

It does, even with a president whose idea of a Sunday break is to show up at the local HiFi show and had his entire system relocated to his housing near the palace for the duration of his term (not sure how much he's actually used it though, but that's what he's looking forward to at the end of his term). Still, you have to account for how much a guy who not only has huge tower speakers driven by Plinius amplifiers and helps out a friend trying to get out of bankruptcy by buying his cheap 911 Carrera would be concerned about taxes for headphones and such.

That said, we do have these in the capital region, although it's a bit cramped and the areea around it has high foot traffic (near the grocery and food court, and it's basically a kiosk under an escalator)

They opened up a larger store in a quieter section of another, more upscale mall, the best part of which is that it's the mall where I totally go apeschiit when I have to decide where to eat - like one steakhouse that sells huge local ribeye and their cook can actually sear it rare properly (very thin but dark brown crust, hot but juicy as hell red meat inside - great contrast of seasoned crust and tender, almost raw meat) or an organic food restaurant that serves freshly minced brisket burgers that they can serve rare topped with blue cheese, and it comes with a side of duckfat-fried fries, sprinkled with more duckfat on top (it helps that the duck region is just on the borders of the capital region). Dynaudio and Shanling dealer is also in the same mall, along with a direct access to the main metro line, so I can go from a similar mall farther up north (closer to my house) that I use for parking, browse audio and eat in that other mall (maybe buy Prime Angus or Wagyu there too), then go back to the (other mall with my meat in a cooler) and get other stuff (like a huge block of local brisket).

I don't remember the exact words in legalese, but i do remember my reaction when it was discussed by a friend in law school, which is what I put up above, and of course his reaction was to confirm that it's the same thing in simpler terms.

First, that doesn't take effect until the next president - he approved a pay hike basically so that the next president won't have to rely on other incomes from before politics. For one, Aquino supposedly gave up his shares to a large plantation owned by his mother's family. I think during his term it was around P275,000 - technically he can still buy each item in there with his annual salary, considering living expenses like food and fuel are on the OP budget, but that will only raise a stink if he actually did that considering how many socialists over here won't give a crap about the fact that a bachelor with a huge living allowance on top of his pay can actually blow money on other crap.

Second, those shares, among others in the stock market and other smaller firms, were what funded his charity for a friend used Porsche political scandal that had everybody yapping about why he bought one, when a socialist professor riding around in a Ducati when he's in one of the cheapest universities is never questioned at all. Not that I think he's corrupt, I'm just questioning the double standards - a Monster is even harder to explain given his salary, even his TV hosting gig, vs a guy who inherited feudal resources helping out a drowning capitalist by buying a used German car on the cheap.

Regardless, I laugh at how people think there's anybody running this year that will make anything different. Even if there was a good presidential candidate, unless you gave that person dicktatorial powers to take out all the klans that rule through the legislature and local executive posts, no reforms are possible because it's "democracy" with "checks and balances." And the one candidate who looks like he's about to kick civil rights up the arse is a klanner himself, with his daughter poised to help consolidate power, and he's the type of guy who claims order on one hand vs criminals, and then threatens a law student who filed a DQ case against him that he will have him killed on the other hand, while he also did not do anything to stop his supporters from threatening said law student's girlfriend with what the UN would call "coordinated and sustained sexual assault." Law and Order my arse.

In any case, back to audio...the President had, like Plinius amps and Sonus Faber speakers. I don't think he'll mess around with HD598s and such.
