After talking about it on the V850 thread, I emailed Violectric about their V820 that will be coming out (November or December time frame). Here are the deets:

Suggested retail around $1100

Features:

-Built-in wide band switch-mode power supply.
-Same inputs/outputs like V850: digital 24/192 (USB, AES, Coax, Optical) analog (RCA/XLR)
-Sample-rate converter like V850 - but only on/off function.
-Two PCM 1795 converters per channel
-Simplified analog output circuitry
-NO volume control
-Case will be similar to the V90, simple plain black anodised aluminum, case depth 5.5" inches.

Thanks for the info man!
I speculated the fixed resampling option, but didn't saw the fixed output coming! This seems perfect for people having sophisticated volume control on their amps already. And its much smaller(3 inch shorter)! very nice

Very interesting
I always thought the 800/850 didn't really need a volume control or re sampling option, so this no frills version seems like a good option.

I wonder if the USB card can be switched out for future upgrades.

I would imagine so if it is part of the same 800,820,850 family.

I actually quite like the digital volume control implementation. My little alo pan am sounds brilliant, but the one weakness is the poor pot base volume knob. (limited by it's size)
I can't do fine control due to it's small size and in low volume level (below 8 o'clock) there is channel imbalance.
The digital volume solves just this problem, and for it to work without degradation of music data, oversampling is needed. (in my understanding)
So now it's perfect as they provide us with options.

Exactly my thoughts... What I'm looking for is a good DAC with fixed line-level XLR outs.

I really hope the V820 or similar gets a release this seems to be ideal for those with a V100/200. I don't need another volume control.

I'm buying the V200 and going to use my Chord Mojo to drive it. I am looking for a more suitable desktop DAC and would definitely buy the V820, the V850 is just overkill for me!
