Vinyl Record Players?

There is no lossless analog recording medium. Tape never sounds like what it was fed from the microphones and vinyl never sounds like the tape. It does not mean it not enjoyable.

..but a digital music file becomes 'lossy' when a data reduction encoding scheme is applied to it to reduce the file size.

Analog recording IS lossless in the sense that no deliberate reduction has been applied to it. It may have losses, or drawbacks, in other areas, but deliberate excision of parts of the audio spectrum on the basis that they're not necessary isn't one of those losses.

No. The only reason to buy a 78rpm TT is if you want to play your father's or grandfather's collection of them from before the 1960s.

You can get specialist 78 TTs if you want them. You also need a specialised cartridge and stylus, and if you're really serious about it, a pre-amp that allows you to choose the EQ according to record label and era.

In a way this may be true but even Jack White recently imbedded a 78 track within the label of his Lazeretro album so saying 78's anymore is not accurate. I have found pristine 78 collections of some awesome music at estate sales and I do enjoy them for the music and how they were made. Are the CD quality heck no but they are a part of my hobbies history. If you are into vinyl which I obviously am a sweet Clear Audio concept table has a 78 speed option and a decent 78 cartridge can be had for very little. Some might go as far as buying a seperate arm wand for faster changing. I know many hate to noise impurities that come with this format but since we hear in analog vinyl delivers more of what I want to hear as opposed to digital with it's unrealistic dead quite black background and range cutoffs (don't get me wrong I have a nice digital setup as eell as mobile galore still at home it's vinyl #1 and digital second) As mentioned with the right setup vinyl can sound magical. It strikes me funny how the analog revolution has taken off again, there must be something worth making all the companies jump back into this camp outside of profits I mean who's buying this old out dated format anyway?

Best to have a completely separate table for 78's. Kinda like having a road bike and a mountain bike, instead of having just a mountain bike and needing to swap the tires every time you change from mountain to road.

Hmm, even with that analogy the tire swap with quick release would be much faster not to mention easier than swapping out cartridges:wink: (caviot- with the acception of P-Mount):stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Yep, I'd have tire on an entire wheel set. I ride a criiser but I have an off road set and street set:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
