Hey guys, Im 17 and my grandfather has an old vinyl player that he brought from germany, while he was working there during the 60's.

It says WeltFunk on it and I really love listening to it.
We are Portuguese but he has alot of german records in a plastic bag. How should we clean them, in order to preserve them?

Is it worth keeping this? I know its old and probably cant be fixed if it breaks, but is there a way to maximize its life time?
It is really something I'd like to show to my kids one day, show them true music, not the crappy stuff we have nowadays.
And plus, its a memory of my grandfather...

Here are some pictures of it:

And another thing, once the needle broke, and a family member in germany managed to get one, but it costed 30€.
So, if the needle breaks its almost impossible to repair, right?

The turntable part is made by DUAL so is pretty decent. The rest is fairly standard 1970s all-in-one or music center. Worth keeping if only because it looks so retro cool and is cheaper than a separate vinyl playing solution,

I would assume that it was a ceramic cartridge, but looking at the picture closely it looks like a moving magnet cartridge. Can you post the name and model of the cartridge if it is written on it?

Nicks right . Dual is a good make .Quite well thought of in the UK in the 70s -there were dearer models than   this   model.
Dont think this one had a   counter weight.

There is no counter weight missing, it is a feather ballanced arm. The arm-system-combi is one of the weak spots of the construction. Cheap bearings and the system must have a maximum downforce of 2.5 g.

The 1222 was typ of an oem product. It was one of the cheapest dual players at its time and yes there is a big difference in sound between a 1222 and newer or "better" players (must not be newer a dual 1228 would be much better).

My grandfather said nothing is missing.

Is there alot of sound quality difference bettween this and more modern vinyl players?

Really depends on what you are striving for.  You can spend under $100 for a new manufacture TT or thousands and I mean $10K and more.

As long as it is running,  just use it :)

I personally would not invest money in it, I would try to get a used project-audio player as an entry-level device (a good old record player mostly costs more :)

Me and my father will try to restore it to make it look like new, but it will be a memory.
it still plays great, and is sure a memory that I'd like to keep.

Whas a good turntable under 200€ ?
