I've owned these in vintage and non-vintage versions and I can't recall any difference between 'em. I have heard vintage and more recent RS-1s and they did sound slightly different, but whether this was down to batch variations or some broader driver/housing/cable production change I couldn't possibly say. I don't see the night-and-day gulf that others have detected between vintage and current RS phones and I wouldn't pay the current premium for them but YMMV.

i think people think the vintage grados sound better when compared to a newer version is because the vintage are broken in all the way.. while the newer ones might still need some time

Don't take offense to this..but I'm mainly looking for comments from people with experience with these headphones. I could guess just as much as the next person.
