Well, I'm looking at Vintage Discmans and PCDPs in general at the moment - thinking perhaps about collecting them, and I know other people are also interested in this market on the forum, so I thought I might as well collate my findings in this thread for all to share - lol.

As these rarely come up on eBay, I probably won't post very often, but please feel free to leave comments about the items

Sony Discman D-35

Although the auctions look related because of the similar titles and images, they are in fact in different countries entirely, so I'm doubting very much that they are related at all. The first auction is a gem, a D-35 in brilliant condition. Though the second is a D-303 that is dysfunctional, though I'm sure the members of this forum would be able to sort that easily enough

Just to let those interested know - the two items have about a day and a half left, so an update on things:

The dysfunctional D-303 still has no bids and remains at it's $9.99 starting price, and the very beautiful D-35 has risen to $72 and is looking a pricey proposition (as well expected!)

I own the D-35 and it's great PCDP! And, D-35 and D-303 appears quite often in eBay US...but anyway.

D-35 are suitable for general Pop music, some rock but not heavy rock/ metel sort of stuff..very comfortable sound IMO. Bass response is just great! Very nice male & female vocal, highs could extent quite well too. Details but kind of cold sound, natural is the word I think.

D-303 is lack of bass..never heard of it myself so can't comment.

For a D-35 with normal acc. (battery box & AC adaptor) I won't pay more than $100 USD for that..if full set with box, max. $150USD..

D-303..dunno really, < $100?

to let you folks know, the D303 didn't sell and has since been relisted, and the D-35 sold for $122.50 - quite an impressive amount!

i doubt the Sony Discman DD-10 would sound good...
the D-140 is my first discman...I personnally think if you are aftering long-term use and good sound..don't buy it.
D-E440 sounds only soso...and lot of noice too.
D-171 doen't sound 'good' too..

The only worth buying one is the D-99 which is good for Pop/rock etc.

I'll add a couple more today in the shape of another D-140, this time fully boxed and in excellent condition. And also the D-191, another one I don't know too much about, though it's probably ina similar field to the 171, ie. not great, but certainly not bad for the price.

Oh and an update on the previous Discmans so far:

The D-171 didn't sell at £0.99
The D-99 sold for £27.90
The D-35 is at $55 with 1 day left
The D-303 is at $9.99 and this time selling with 1 bid and 3 days left
The DD-10 is still at £9.99 and has yet to receive a bid

That's the news so far in Discman world!

for portable use, I perfer D-E905 and DPC-761, I have a D-EJ01 but don't use it much

^have you actually used one? I had a d-e905 and although it had a very nice, slim casing, the d-321 headphone out is much, much better and the antishock is very good without even using the esp. I paid 100$ for my d-e905 and 15$ for my d-321, but after having used the d-321, I would gladly pay 100$ for another mint d-321 but not for a d-e905.
