With this setup going into my desktop computer:
Do I need to get a 3.5mm output for the male-to-male, nothing at all or something different?

Also, for maximum sound quality should the amp I use with this have an optical output for my desktop? (meaning get a different Amp all together?)

For what you currently have a 3.5 mm male-to-male is fine.

In the future you may want to upgrade to a DAC/Amp, or separate DAC and Amp for improved SQ.

  Thank you Mr. Rick.

I've read a lot of reviews and seen quite a few different Amps suggested.

FiiO E09K High Output Desktop Headphone Amplifier and Dock for E07K or E17
Musical Fidelity V-CAN II
Bellari HA540 Pure Class A Stereo Headphone Amplifier

With no audiophile history in me, how do I know what's going to drive this correctly/appropriately for desktop gaming?

I'm not familiar with those amps and I do not own those cans, but here are some amps that are popular for use with the 701s.

Hopefully someone will come along with gaming experience to advise.

very interesting website. I'm not sure what most of that means sadly. Dampening and Peak SPL....

i would appreciate it if anyone is well versed in gaming that could advise!
Can anyone recommend what to use for a USB DAC/AMP?
