Verdi Requiem

Guys,

I recently listened to the Pappano version and noticed something in the Tuba Mirum that I never really noticed bebore. It is when the full orchestra is back and the Choir Bass starts the 'Tu .... ba mirum ...'.
The strings + oboe + clarinet + fagott are doing that .. not sure how to call it ... 'descending string on notes' during two measures and I like that a lot.

I went back to my Gardiner, Harnoncourt, Giulini and karajan recordings to look for it. It's there, but less distinct in the sound mass. This said, I can hear the bass choir (doing Tu .... ba mirum ...') better than in the pappano version.

Timings :
Pappano @1:02
Gardiner @1:00
Harnoncourt Vienne @1:05
Giulunu @0:57
Karajan, Vienna 85 @1:13

Any recommendation for a version that would be more 'analytical' in term of playing and sound so I could hear that part better ?

Thank you very much !
Lionel

I generally like the Phillips recordings for their performances (I have Beethoven, Brahmsm and Morzat etc) but I think I will go with the Harnoncourt SACD because I was impressed with his Mozart Requiem SACD.
