Always been the case, even a mid tier desktop setup can trade blows or beat TOTL DAPs. Now you have a superb great amp(one of the best I bet) to start journey into headphones also :beerchug:

Guessing the sockets is XLR and 6.3mm single ended?

I've had a few headphones in the past but don't really like having them on my head for long periods. I might explore a bit more down the line though!

So it's actually XLR and 4.4mm.

Even though I haven't had the luxury of listening to the Defiant, I could almost guarantee you that there isn't a product from VE that doesn't perform over its MSRP. THe only reason why I cannot guarantee that is because I myself haven't had the chance of listening to everything, but based on what owners of VE gear say, it's legit. And to be fair, this is what VE is all about, it's a IYKYK company, more like a family. This being said, VE high-end gear is something I'd love to hear, because just listening to the entry-level IEMs from VE, I can say that it would be an understatement to say it's impressive.

Congrats on the Defiant purchase! We're all looking forward to hearing about your journey with it, so keep us posted ;)

Thanks man. I'll make sure to provide updates. I really hope someone passes a Defiant by you at some point so you can enjoy it too! As for value for money, it's true, they're offering it at all levels too, budget, mid and top.

My advice would be, don't listen to the Defiant with any IEMs if you want to save yourself money. I can't go back now.

I think it might be the selling point - it works well with IEMs

but man 1300 for so little of electronics

I trust it sounds amazing but on from theoretical point of view knowing in the same ballpark you can get used/new

Vioelectric V281 or Flux FA10 Pro

but again, if it works with SR8 then it's better than others as usually desktop amps are not exactly tuned for IEMs

You raise a good point here. Unfortunately, Defiant can't offer zero noise with SR8. It's impedance is 6ohm. Which even some DAPs can't provide zero hiss with (e.g. Dx300 Amp11mk1). But then there's zero noise with Alita, Mentawai, Aure etc.

I'm trying to collate some thoughts on Defiant, but overall I am blown away by it. I didn't expect two products from the same company to be the best purchases I've made in audio, the APWS being the first and the Defiant the second.

On the Defiant, the power lifts the low end on the APWS, resolving the main issue I had with it not covering low strings adequately (amendment to the review to come). It is an absolute beast with my IEMs, especially DD, planar or EST hybrids that require power. It has a very black background and dynamics that are off the Richter scale. When I paired the Cayin C9 with my IEMs I was impressed to begin with but the novelty quickly wore off and the improvement in sound wasn't worth carrying the device around. Now, going back and forth between Defiant and DX300 Amp12 I wouldn't want to listen to my IEMs any other way.

I'll probably write a deeper dive on the Defiant when I get the time and that may include the Defiant Docking Bay attachment if I buy it. In the meantime, here's a picture:

I've had the APWS since yesterday and it's a gem plugged into my LP6ti7, which I don't want to talk more about for a while; but I was just thinking that the lower part was very well framed and ian91's review suggested otherwise.
So a short comment:
It's through a powerful source that we discover this

Could just be source synergy that was lacking for me! Great to hear you're enjoying it. More power is definitely a big part of the answer.

On the Defiant I have zero issue with APWS low end.

It's likely that we have different tastes in music, but I don't believe in a direct relationship between musical tastes and headphone selection: I'm not a fan of bass, and I can appreciate counter bass, but with the right enhancement (Susvara was my best choice for all music).
I was rather surprised by the APWS rendering in this area, but I like it as it is: just what I need.

I think that what we love from APWS is how diferent can represent our library against all the other stuff we already have (earvuds/iems) .
The soul you can feel with some female vocal tracks gives the right for entering on the Olympo, where only Zen Su could be close. Doesn't matter price or brand.

And yes, Defiant amps can get the extra juice getting more punch and nuances to the party.

Congrats for your APWS and happy for not being the only odd bug.

Enjoy

Yep. It's a 'special' colouration. Soulful I would call it.

Zen SU can come close but it's warmer overall with greater note weight and less vocal clarity and therefore sounds less transparent. For instrumental and vocal nothing can topple the APWS. Zen SU is finding it's own space within my hip hop, electronic and limited metal library.

I can take a pick from APW og version, but my Totls are at USA on a fiends Tour
Cool; I will remain patient. Whenever they do arrive back to you please kindly post a pic of them as 'me ole' brain' still remains skeptical that this particular model even exists! LOL!
