Anybody familiar with these kits?

http://www.web-tronics.com/lowcosunbatc.html and they have a fancier one. The fancier one looks good but it has an automatic discharge feature which is OK for NiCd but shouldn't be used for NiMH, right? Is it possible to turn that feature off? What about the cheaper one? Is it adequate for charging NiMH batteries in a portable amp? Is there danger of overchargin with that one? Any input would be appreciated as always. Would I be better off borrowing from the PPA design and building on a protoboard?

Look at and modify Standard LM317 Charger for 9V NiMh Batteries.

There are two good reasons not to do an LM317 charge circuit:

1. You want fast charging and are willing to spend the time, money, complexity and space to have this. Look at Tangent's board.

2. You don't have the voltage overhead for an LM317 circuit.

Otherwise, it's the way to go.
