VBR explaination please?

No, I'd say lower bitrate VBR > higher bitrate CBR (unless you've set VBR to really low) The problem with CBR it uses the same amount if there's silence or hardly anything going on.

But I'm saying to assume storage space is not an issue at all. Is VBR still better then, or would you say CBR is just as good or better?

Straight from wiki, "The advantages of VBR are that it produces a better quality-to-space ratio compared to a CBR file of the same data...".
