I have came to this conclusion

The aclaimed v6 is a great pair of cans

They are upper mid-strong and have good bass extention

Being studio phones I think these are great
they will point out details that are often heard which can be good or bad, so it's good for finding flaws because of it's stronger- high mids

but the bad part of this is that on bad recordings, and equipment which isn't **** hot
it won't produce great detailed sound, even make the music sound harsh

it's pretty slick set of cans because they are quite durable and comfortable with the beyer pads

I noticed for portable devices, an amp will make some of the biggest difference...
stronger mids and sometimes I feel will lessen the harshness in the sound...

They still do work great out of pcdp's
but with an amp i'd say the difference in sound is far far better

these cans have great potential
but need proper equipment I find...

so my conclusion is that they aren't the most musical cans
I'd think if they created the same cans with the same properties but with a flatter
high-mid
they would be some super dooper cans

Yeah, I am hearing the same things. I wonder how an open version of the V6/7506 would sound.

haha
bring me a
cheese grater
and lets see how they sound opened

lol

again...
if these cans were more neutral in upper mids

I think
theses would be one of the best closed cans (as if it isn't already)
but because it's so versitle

doesn't really need an amp
has funcationality for djing and convenience of folding up
and comfort with the beyer pads
and cheap

I’m seriously thinking of getting these for mixing. I’ve heard great thing about them. I had been using Fostex T20’s but these have no low end, literally rolled off at about 50hz maybe more. I am curious about the Beyer pads. Where can i buy the pads and is there a down side to them?

Yes yes u must get these for mixing

for sure

the excellerated mids are great for finding flaws

or djiing, especially for quing in record because it gives you good knowledge of where you are in the song
as well as the beat to match

they are versitile
and the beyer pads are SO NICE!!! they feel like sennheiss in comfort

and for scratching
oh my these are great
u can hear how clear things are
the chirp, the crab scratch
u can hear it all clearly

I was thinking about getting some Sony MDR-V6's for a friend for christmas.

The headphones will probably used for DJing, mixing, and maybe just normal listening on his cheaper portable CD player. He listens to a lot of hip hop, funky breaks, electronica, loud indie rock type stuff (all with A LOT of bass) and he likes to listen to it LOUDLY.

My budget is $100 or less. What do you think, good choice? comments? suggestions?

I don't know much about headphones, so I can't really give detailed specifications

For all that stuff? Not just "best choice" but "only choice" is more like it...

Roll off at 50 hz? Not the V6's... if they roll off at 50 hz, something is *very very* wrong. try the Beyer pads....

you can get them from Beyerdynamic, of course!

Go to their webpage. You have to call their 800 number, most likely...

Just voicing my dissent...too "hyped" for my ears...

Hey, if I give my girlfriend a pair of V6's, would that mean that she would then have a great pair of cans? I'll have to try that... ;-P

Gluegun, I was referring to my Fostex T20’s being rolled off, not the sony’s. witch i here have a very good low end.

I should be receiving the 7506’s in a day or two. The only complaint I really have after demoing the sony’s at SamAsh is they sound a little bright, but i’m hopping that will aid me in my mixing.
