I just dropped off a package with USPS 30 minutes ago with Tracking number.

I forgot to insure it. Can I go back tomorrow morning and purchase insurance?

most likely not. by the time you go there tomorrow, it'll likely be in some truck headed towards the package destination.

Eh? I've considered trading my 600's becaues if the mail does lose them (knowing Canada post they will) I will make like $500 free becasue the hd-600's retail for $600 CAD at futureshop here.

Yikes, I just bought a Fluke DMM from Ebay.. forgot to insure it also. I'm scared now

It will have to go through the Canada/US border... dang, more chance of getting it "lost". Oh well, I've had many many packages arrive without a problem.

i dont know about insurance but i always try to have delivery confirmation..

Cross boarder money orders seem very dangerous, and people for some reason beyond me will never want checks, even if I tell them that they have good feedback and can clear the check and verify they have the money before sending anything out as I don't have paypal and don't really want to set one up.

I bought a big Miller Lite neon sign on ebay, and the shipper mailed it via USPS to me here in Taiwan. The packing was a joke, so of course the thing showed up in a million pieces.

Long story short, it was insured, the shipper submitted a claim, and about 4-6 weeks later (much to my pleasant amazement) the local Taiwan post office sends me a notice asking me to come pick up my cash!

The moral of the story...at least from my experience, the USPS insurance rocks.

Peace,

Graz

Maybe this will cheer you up:

The only way insurance companies can survive if they make more money from insuring than they have to pay out. Let say they make double their input, which seems reasonable with postal insurance (Actually, I think this would be even higher, much higher). What does it cost to insure a package for about $500? $5 or so? That'd mean that on average, they send out 200 insured packages before one can get lost. That means that the chance of your package getting lost is a 0.5% chance, or less.
