Background:
I have seen it argued that for components and equipment that require d.c. power, the way to go is to replace the wall wart with a linear power supply. I have looked into this and found that linear power supplies are not inexpensive. So what to do, if like me you are on a budget?

I have a headphone DAC/Amp that I connect to my laptop. It's power requirement is 15 Watts, in the form of 5V driving 3A. So here's what I did: Anker make power-banks for recharging mobile phones when you're away from mains power. I bought a 20,000 mAh Anker battery (£21) that delivers d.c. power to a maximum of 15 Watts @ 5V x 3A. So I connected it up and.....my God, what an improvement. I should add that I'm getting about 7 - 8 hours, before it needs to be recharged.

So, I'm wondering if anyone else has done this, or would consider trying it?
