Hello all.

I am setting up a room with an old Technics SA-GX690 receiver for a five speaker set up w/ a subwoofer. It doesn't seem 5.1 as it only has center, right, and left with two "surround" speakers.

I am looking to top it off with a subwoofer, and I have two options. One is to use an unpowered 12 inch subwoofer I have, and find an amp. (The reciever does not power the subwoofer outputs) Or the other is to use subwoofer from an old 2.1 Creative I-Trigue L3800 as a powered subwoofer.

Can I use just the 2.1 subwoofer for the output of the unpowered receiver subwoofer outputs? Should I just buy an amp for the 12" sub? Is the system so old that it isn't even worth messing with?

It would be subwoofer RCA R/L to the 2.1 phono jack that is designed for full audio spectrum channels.

Side question

Every speaker is 4-8 ohms output except the center. The center output says 8 ohms. My 5 speakers are all 6 ohms. The center would be mismatched to rated impedance. Any tips? I don't think I will be pushing it too loud, but who knows.

Thanks so much you guys!
