I would wonder if the Xonar DG is capable of running output to both. Don't know.

When you have started your computer fresh, and use the Modi (no mixamp hooked up), how often does the problem happen?

I actually haven't done that. I've unplugged the mixamp connection before, and it actually fixed it one time. However, the next time I tried doing that it didn't fix it.
