Does anyone know if it would be possible for software to convert raw audio data to the I2S format and then send it out via USB? This way there is no conversion from raw audio data to something else like SPDIF and then back to I2S at the DAC (so that the DAC understands the data it needs to convert to analog).

Is there anyway for the audio stream to be in the I2S format when it is being transported via USB?
Could a software audio player read a wav or flac file and then convert the raw PCM to the I2S format?
Maybe I am misunderstanding the way things work though...I will keep researching.

Mods, feel free to delete this thread. I checked Wikipedia. I guess I2S is strictly an interface (like USB) that transports PCM data.
