Hey guys -
The setup here is my Mackie DL32R digital mixer connecting via USB 2 to my two Macs. I have both a Macbook Pro (employer's) and my 2019 Mac Pro. I really want to be able to switch the Mackie back and forth between the two Macs without having to plug/unplug/plug/etc. Unfortunately I've tried two different USB 2 and USB 3 switches, and I get the same response from them both. The sound crackle output plays fine crackle but there are usually extra crackle sound effects added crackle to it.
I've also tried a different USB DAC entirely with a different USB cable to either switch, and I get the same crackle annoyances. When I connect either device (mixer/DAC) directly to the Macs in question, the problems vanish. That leads me to believe that the circuitry in any given USB switch is just bad for audio.
Does anyone use a DAC with two or more computers, and have it directed via a USB switch? Are you getting nice, crisp, clean audio? If so, which switch are you using?
Thanks!
