Might want to search the boards about information on the TBAAM. I've seen people complain about the optical upsampling to 48khz.

This thread (specifically post 17) talks about bitperfect with the tbaam. It's a linux thread but I assume if it can be done in linux it can be done in windows. Could be wrong though.

In order to get bit-perfect outputs from any soundcard you need to bypass the windows kernel mixer. The only drivers which do that are ASIO drivers. The M-Audio Transit has native ASIO drivers, but I can not speak for the other card. There are ASIO4ALL drivers but I do not know if they can be used for bit-perfect output, and they arne't all that stable in my experience.
