Is there such a thing? The M-Audio Transit/Sonica could do this, but they're very expensive for just that purpose and you get a lot of other components you don't want/need. What about DIY'ing something together?

very easy, there is a single chip solution available from Burr Brown..

This would be handy for feeding a Benchmark or other non-USB DAC from a PC.

Im sure if you wandered over to the forum where you ask for things like that you can find someone that might want to build it for you.

Assuming this isnt a laptop and that its only for one computer - would a chaintech av710 be easier?

my sony minidisc player came with one, I'd imagine you could the replacement part off some site, or maybe on ebay. It was bundled with my MZ-R700. I'm assuming you're talking about going from USB to optical.
