Wow that is quite a difference. I guess they make out well with the Sony hardware subsidy. I am sure Sony is not happy they won't sell 2200 sets of games this xmas.

They made a gripload of money of the systems though.

2200 at 300 a pop is no pocket change.

And the North Korean Army, not wanting to be outstaged, bought 1,000 used NES and 58 Gameboy Advance to compute their Nuclear missile system.
Meanwhile Swedish Army was just too busy watching pron.

At that quantity I'm sure their actual cost is more like $150 or less, each.

I hears Canada had one Play Station on order but then had to cancel when they sold the plane.

From what I read they actually lose money by selling the systems, and then assume they can make the difference in software. Actual PS3 costs were pegged at ~$800 probably around ~$600 maybe now with the manufacturing refinements.

I didn't see how much custom programming has to go into this. I wonder if Sony issued them a SDK to do this lol.

Actually, I recall reading that production costs were $400 at the start of 2008 and earlier this year down to around $200. They haven't been losing that much money for some time already.

Well technology only gets cheaper and cheaper to make. I'm just not sure how fast raw costs are dropping.
