2200 at 300 a pop is no pocket change.
From what I read they actually lose money by selling the systems, and then assume they can make the difference in software. Actual PS3 costs were pegged at ~$800 probably around ~$600 maybe now with the manufacturing refinements.
I didn't see how much custom programming has to go into this. I wonder if Sony issued them a SDK to do this lol.

Actually, I recall reading that production costs were $400 at the start of 2008 and earlier this year down to around $200. They haven't been losing that much money for some time already.
