So ... black or gray?
I'm sure this is a bit late...but if it still helps I returned the MDR-1As after lusting them for many months and researching/comparing. I too was looking for something new and these seemed and look absolutely amazing in addition tot he great price on amazon.fr. But the bass was too...blubbery. It bled into everything else and I couldn't enjoy the entirety of a track. If you really like bass, but the rest of the range as well, I recommend the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80ohm. To me, everything shines in these and bass+equalizer boost is like a subwoofer on your head. The entire headphone seems to rattle though when bass is boosted all the way.
Blubbery? You calling my headphones "blubbery"?
Each to their own, I guess. I found the bass to be a bit boomy straight out of my iPod, but not excessively, and tight and deep out of my Fiio M3 and e17k. I even EQ a touch more bass out of the e17k when I feel the songs will benefit. Guess I'm a bassheadI have never once felt that there is any "bleed" into the mids, but hey, we all have different opinions.
I'm going to try those Beyers sometime, and compare.
Hopefully you do realise that I was joking,no need to "do" anything about it.
I listen to all sorts from classic electronic (Tangerine Dream) through lots of classic rock (Led Zeppelin and Zappa) with a pretty good mix of all except jazz, which I find too boring.
I think that the Sony has a very nice range of dynamics, good extension and isn't overblown in the bass. I listened to literally dozens of sets before deciding because I wanted to get the very best for *my* tastes irrespective of price. I like experimenting with IEMs but only wanted one good set of overears.
But, hey, I'm not criticizing your choice or opinions, no fighting required.
