This is kind of embarrassing. But I have been in the hospital and am new to this hi-rez stuff. A simple question that I can't find an easy answer to. When I got my Fiio I know I had to take out the SD card to get the firmware on it. Do I still have to do that with each update? Like from 1.4 to 1.6 or 1.6 to 2.0? I am trying to copy some CD's on my laptop and then to my Fiio. But every time I browse files, I get no music found.

This is really frustrating because a friend sent me a file from OneDrive and it is on my Fiio. What am I doing wrong?

unfortunately yes.  I noticed the fiios don't let you update or downgrade the firmware using the usb cable.  I had to get a smaller micro sd card to upgrade the firmware and yes it's a hassle to remove the current card in it and to have to reset the media library and update it after updating the latest firmware

Hi, John.
When updating the X3II, you can just directly update the latest firmware (currently FW2.0 for X3II) skipping the midal version.
I think there is no need to take out the micro SD card because you can connect the X3II with the computer by the micro USB cable, and directly load the firmware file to the SD card which is already inserted into the X3II.
Here is the instruction to guide how to update the X3II: click here. It may take about 1 minute and is easy to be done. :)

After loading the music files to X3II, yes, pls remember to update the media library by "System settings" firstly.

Your micro SD card can be used with other devices normally? If you don't mind, pls format it by the X3II directly (System Setting-> Storage format), then after done, pls load music files and test again.
If the above still can not help, pls contact us again and inform us the brand, the capacity of your micro SD card. It will be better if you can confirm it is not a fake SD card by being tested with the related tool on the computer.
We will try our best to help you, pls don't worry.

Thank you very much gameguru and Fiio Shadow. That was very quick and with clear instructions as well. I really like this little Fiio. The sound is very good and it truly is a giant killer. I have a good friend that was helping me when I first got it and he has an Astell & Kern. He liked the Fiio very much and only noted the smaller screen size but said he plans to buy a Fiio as a spare. I am using mine with the AKG 701's.

BTW, in the script for the 2.0 update, I thought I read something about this being the last firmware update for the X3 2nd gen. Is this true?

Dear John,
Yes, the FW2.0 is the final firmware for X3II.

If there is no major bug that might influence the function of X3II, the FW2.0 will be the last update and there will be no further firmware for X3II afterwards. Thank you!

This is disappointing. There is, in my opinion, a major bug still in that the X3ii does not sort tracks correctly when you have a multi-disk album and you are using the library to access the music The player sorts by track number and then disk, instead of disk first and then track number.

For instance The Wall by Pink Floyd.

The correct track order is
Disk 1
1. "In the Flesh?"
2. "The Thin Ice"
3. "Another Brick in the Wall (Part I)"
...
Disk 2
1. "Hey You"
2. "Is There Anybody Out There?"
3. "Nobody Home"

The music library sorts this as

1-1. "In the Flesh?"
2-1. "Hey You"
1-2. "The Thin Ice"
2-2. "Is There Anybody Out There?"
1-3. "Another Brick in the Wall (Part I)"
2-3. "Nobody Home"

Do you not consider this to be a bug - that the player does not play the tracks in the correct order?

Hi, Another Steve.

Please note that, at present, the tracks under "Album" are sorted just by track number. And because the X3II can not recognize the CD number of every track, those tracks will be sorted like 1-1,2-1, 1-2, 2-2...
Actually, we also received this feedback before, but it is not easy to detect the CD number info of every track for the current software design after we have tried to make some changes . Moreover, we will give priority to the stability on the whole system.

In this case, we are afraid that the tracks of from CD 2 should be edited by Foobar2000 firstly, and you can change their track number to 11,12,13...if there are only 10 tracks in CD 1.

I imagined that you would have used ID tags instead of file names for the entries in the catagory view. If you say that changing the code would result in a less stable player then I believe you, although I wonder how manufacturers of inferior players manage? Anyway I have done what you suggested and renamed the files in those albums. We do now have the problem that the search function is worthless in the all songs view. The search does not search song names, it searches file name and all my songs begin with numbers. These little things detract from the quality of the player and it makes it look like Fiio have cut corners. Luckily the player sounds awesome and my new X5 2nd gen and K5 dock sound even better! It is hard to complain about a player than sounds just so good :)

Fiio Shadow: Hi. What about the cover art being cropped? Is this not going to be fixed? Thanks

So does this mean there will be a soon released FiiO X3III? If so, when will it be released as Im already considering buying a X3II soon.

Will purchasing a Fiio X3 II be a substantial benefit over my sony xperia z3 mini for my sennheiser hd598's???

Hi, I just bought Fiio Q5s and currently using X3II to connect via Fiio L28 coax cable. Does the ML06 cable work if I want to use usb connection with Q5s?
Dear friend,

The X3II does not support usb audio function, so you may not be able to connect the Q5s with it using the ML06.

Best regards
