Upgraded Zero sounds better than stock Little Dot MKIII?

I just got my Little Dot MKIII in the mail yesterday and burned it in for about 8 hours before listening.

However, I feel that my upgraded Zero with a Earth HDAM in the DAC and LT1364's in the head amp actually sounds better. The soundstage seems much wider and the sound is more detailed overall.

Do I need to give the MKIII more time to burn in? I always thought the MKIII would be a huge step up from the Zero, especially because I have Beyerdynamic DT880s, which everyone says love tubes. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

When comparing did you use the ZERO as DAC in both situations?

But yes, I would say you need way more burn-in time, and them probably better tubes in order to achieve the full potential of the MKIII, the stock tubes are crappy.

I would put 100 or more hours on the Little Dot before comparing the two.

Yes, I used the Zero DAC in both situations. I guess I will give it more time. I also found some Mullard M8100s for pretty cheap which should hopefully improve things more.

If you can buy matched pairs

.

And also try out the various gain settings.

The Burn in period is painful. After you wait for your toys to arrive, you have to wait for so long to get them to the ideal setting.

Be patient...the end result is always worth the wait!
