Upgrade to EMM Labs source or buy many small things?

I have Cary 303/300 and I'm not sure there will be much improvement if I upgrade, I will use the Cary as a transport for the EMM Labs DAC until I can afford EMM Labs CDSD. It's a long wait.

1a) EMM Labs DCC2 SE. ($13K)

1b) EMM Labs DCC2 old used version.

2) Nordost Valhalla power cord for my DAC1, Stewart Firehawk projector screen, HD-DVD player, HDMI switch and cable, HD movies, 6 'Solid-tech Feet of Silence' for Power Plants, 5 PS Audio Noise Harvesters, a few CDs, Stealth Indra XLR interconnect, shipping to RMA a couple things, batteries, new comb.

Valhalla for DAC1 is what I want the most (dynamics for movies!), but if I get the EMM Labs DAC I don't need to buy another power cord so it saves me $1500 and gives better sound.

Yes yes but it must be an audiophile approved knob. I will be selling them on my new site which should be up in a week or so. They look similar to this model and retail for $549. They really improve overall clarity and detail in your rig.

I vote number 2 btw... especially the comb.

Patrick82 I never realized you were so young, does being a philosopher really bank as much loot as you spend?

Tweaking will only get you so far, whereas a source upgrade will get you quite a bit further.

Meitner's a great, but they aren't the only option. dCS, Esoteric, and Larvy's top-end unit are all worthy of giving a look.

I'm pretty sure you could get an hd based transport (forgoing entirely all cd related tweaks, if you can take it) and a good usb->spidf converter which would give you less jitter than the cary which is designed as a cdp and probably lacks particularly good transport functions. Then sell the cary for your meitner, and still be able to swing a few combs.

You could probably get Ed Meitner to modify a HDD based transport with his interface. That's be pretty kickin'.

The old Cary 303/100 was supposed to be a good transport.
