Do you guys think it is worth it? I live in a small apartment building and there is a garden apartment below me, so I have been a bit deterred from using the sub on the Promedia 2.1 system (although I recently purchased a large foam panel from Auralex to help with the floor vibrations - no complaints so far). I can't help but feel that a pair of speakers that can produce some bass on their own without a sub might be better for my situation. Also, I am just getting into the hi-fi audio world and wouldn't mind spending a little more money for better sound. I just bought the Audioengine D1 DAC/headphone amp and I am kind of excited to hear how it would sound with the A2s or A5s. I really only use my speakers for listening to music and I'm not much of a basshead, although I listen to a bit of everything so I don't want to feel like I need more bass when listening to rap or something.

Thanks!

In my opinion: No. But don't take my word for it.

If you want to upgrade, you can beat the Audioengine A2 for less than a $100 like this:

If you have your heart set on self-powered speakers, you can beat the Audioengine A5+ for less money like this:
