As you hinted that your budget was 30.00 US but did not specify I'll be the first to go out on the "Sorry about your wallet" limb and suggest getting your first pair of Custom IEM's. Alien Ears AE-1's 125.00 US with free shipping.
Check them out for the heck of it. You can always say no ( I used to think I could say no as well)

Go for the JBL Reference 220 - much better SQ than the CX300.
Search for them in the forum. I bought them and enjoy every second of listening on my iPod touch 2g.

One way to answer that question is with a question - does the standard Apple phones + mic that works with the iPhone also work with the Touch? If it does, then the NE-7M will probably also work.

Thanks, I guess I could give them a go, if not I'll still have a decent pair of earphones.

afaik, the Apple earphones with mic do work with the ipod touch 2g, however from what I've read and from asking certain manufacturers not all iphone headsets seem to be compatible with the ipod touch 2g. I recently asked the manufacturer of the m-JAYs and they told me it wasn't compatible with the touch 2g.

for around that price, for Earphones i would say Head-Direct Re2, Nuforce Ne-7m (if you're a bass/lows lover and doesn't care as much about the mids and highs) and the Nuforce Ne-8, and for earbuds, i would say Yuin Pk3.

By the way, Sennheiser earphones don't get to Audiophile level until you hit the IE series or the High CX series, like the CX-6 or CX95.

i wouldn't recommend skullcandy, skullcandy is like...the Imitation/Counterfeit high-end audio brand. they claim they make great earphones with fantastic sound, the truth is, they don't. Sound quality isn't the greatest, though it may be a bit better than the Ipod earbuds, they don't come close to the competitors in the real audio world, like the Yuin PK3, Nuforce Ne-7m, Ne-8, Head Direct Re2, stuff like that. Infact, the earphones skullcandy makes uses the same drivers for all of them, it's just either a 9mm or a 11mm, and tuned at a slightly different frequency response. Skullcandy material is low quality, the so is the build quality. Everyone that i know of who owned skullcandy's has had their pair broken down on them, so i converted them all to the nuforce and Re2 world.

Conclusion...don't buy skullcandy. Money down the drain

Although I haven't really haven't heard anything in the price range except the portapros (Which sounds good for the price), NuForce and Yuin Pk3s are well regarded around here. I plan on getting the Pk3s myself.

The Koss KSC75 are good too.

Oh, and a word of advice. Skullcandy IEMs are acceptable if you can get them cheap. 20 bucks for ink'd isn't cheap, because you can do better for the money. And make sure to avoid their headphones, because they sound like garbage, look like garbage, and they break like a garbage.

I find it hilarious that the sound of their cheaper IEMs are better than their much more expensive headphones.
