Hello everyone,

I've owned a pair of Hifiman HE-400 headphones for a couple of years.  They sound good, no doubt.  I also own an Audio-GD NFB-11 DAC/Amp.  My HE-400 are pretty beat up and I'm considering an upgrade.  What would be the least expensive, but still substantial, upgrade option that I should consider?  I'm not really interested in upgrading my amp at this time but a significant upgrade in audio quality would be desired.

Let's say the upper limit in price is $600.  I'm willing to buy used.

Thanks!

I've never heard HE-400s but I remember reading a few years back when researching different upgrade options that there was a very big difference in sound between the 400 and the 500.

You can get a used pair of 500s for around $500-ish I think? Maybe lower. Might be worth you reading up on differences and seeing if it sounds worth it to you. I have it and love it and people have nothing but good things to say about it.
