If I upgrade from D1000 to D2000, what improvements should I expect?

I like the 1000s. My only criticisms are that the mids are a little recessed on occasion and the bass is big but can be a tad sloppy. Will these conditions improve in the 2000s?
Must I have an amp for the 2000s?
Thanks as always.

I know the mids are not recessed, and the bass is quite good, on the D2000, if that's any help -- haven't heard the D1000.

fwiw, the difference between d5000 and d1000 is huge, and ive read the gap between d2000 and d5000 isnt tremendous, so you could expect a very good improvement. d5000s is much better in all respects compared to d1000s imo.

Would the Apogee Duet be "sufficient" to drive the D2000? I do not want to get a separate amp at this time (probably not for quite some time, TBH). Or would I be better off going ahead & getting the ATH-A900 which can be driven by pretty much anything? I can get either for basically the same price...

BTW, I listen mostly to jazz, blues, rock, trance...pretty much everything but country & classical!!
