Hello.

I currently have a AD700.. and its awesome.

I have a xonar DX souncard aswell.

Im looking to go beyond thse cups to a 75%gaming 20%music 5%Movie/misc based phones.

I was looking at AKG q701 k/702 and akg 550.

I would like a set of headphones that i can easily tell the difference from the AD700 for soundstage/accuary and clarity.

Max $$ is at 300ish

As the Xonar DX is a good sound card but not that great for driving headphones, recommend you buy an external headphone amplifier to plug into the Xonar DX.
A Fiio E9 headphone amplifier ($89) should make a good combo with the Xonar DX

I doubt you will find a headphone with better "gaming" sound stage then the AD700, but the ATH-AD700 light base will make other headphones sound better.
Sennheiser HD558 headphones, $180, used $150.

The K701/Q701 are an upgrade in all things over the AD700 except maybe soundstage. The AD700's soundstage is just impossibly hard to beat until maybe just the HD800. The K701 comes close, but the AD700's soundstage just... never ends.

Holy crap.. 1500 for the 800... cant afford that >.>

mm, would it be worth it to sell the ad700's for the k701 in your opinion?

Ill be mostly gaming... but the ad700 seems to lack quality.. but maybe if i get the titanium xfi HD itll sound better..

The Q701 is amazing and a noticeable upgrade from the AD700. They however need some decent amping, whereas the AD700 doesn't.

I would say vintage Stax, but I realize these days that getting a Lambda and a transformer box for $250, along with having an otherwise unused A/V receiver to act as a speaker-level amp for the whole system, was a fluke. It does beat the AD700 at everything in my book, though. (Except pricing and availability, of course...and midrange, if you're talking about the numerical Lambdas as opposed to the original Normal bias model.)

On the flip side, the AKGs are infamously demanding with amps, or so they say. Certainly enough to shoot past your $300 budget when factoring that in.
