Search seems to be breaking up keywords with numbers in them into separate strings. So instead of matching "UM3X" when performing that search, it'll search for "UM" "3" "X". Easiest to see if one uses the quick search, choosing show posts and sort by recency.
 
Also seems to happen to words with numbers in post contents, so a search for "T50P" would probably return results with "T50RP" in the post body.

head-fi search basically suck. It's much easier finding a thread by searching the word you look for and head-fi on google.
