My UM2's are on lend so I figured I'd try out some cheap stuff in the meantime, just to get an idea for what's out there.

So i grabbed a set of JVC HA-FX55, in-ear bud style earphones. They don't wrap around the top of your ears or go out the back, they are merely like traditional earbuds. But the cord lengths to each ear piece are far from equal. So all the weight of the cord is pulling on my left ear and there's quite a bit of slack (a lot) going to my right ear. What's the deal with this setup? I see no benefits; its more uncomfortable, you have more spare wire to deal with and it looks like someone went dumb with the wire cutters and cut the wrong lengths.

Cord going to the right bud should go behind your neck?

edit: googled that model. Seems that it's not THAT long, just long enough to irratate. Why? Beats me.
