Hi all,

I've been using SE210 portably and ATH-AD900 at home for my audio listening and I plan to upgrade to a UM3X having heard many positive reviews on it.

I got one question though and that is would my NWZ-X1050 be able to drive the UM3X? Anyone have this setup? Thanks!!!

Yes, the UM3xs are very sensitive and are driven just fine by the X Walkman. There's the tinniest bit of hiss without music playing but it's hardly discernible.

Shouldn't be a problem.

I don't have your mp3 player but with my Cowons, I can't tell whether its hiss or the effect of blood in my ears (like when you hold up a conch shell to your ear) that I'm hearing.

I have a Sony A818 with the UM3X and it is definitely "drivable". However I hear a hiss which i don't really like therefore I went foe a portable amp in addition. So now i have a D2 Boa in between and the sound is just perfect!

As I mentioned, it's not discernible at all with music playing.

I'll test this out as soon as I can. It's modified with Black Gate caps though and the interior amp is bypassed. My experience could be very different from what others with non-modified Ipods are experiencing.

Still, I'll be sure to let you know.

EDIT: Do you mean mp3 players in general? I experience a lot of hiss with the Iriver IFP-895, no hiss with the Sansa Clip v2 and a wee bit of hiss with the Samsung YP-K3 and the X Walkman.

dissembled: the headphone out on your IMOD/DIYMOD will be no different from stock; they do not touch the HP out at all

Yes, my post involves me amping the LOD out of the Ipod. Should have mentioned that earlier as that changes things a bit.

Sony S639 doesn't hiss at all even if there is no music.

Edit: however, I must warn you that the soundstage will be small. Instrument separation, on the other hand, is amazing, which helps alleviate the close in soundstage, for me.

Yes, there is a very slight hiss, mmm.. similar to pink noise, but, it did not 'disturbing' my music enjoyment at all. If you want a liitle bit more treble kicks, increase the EQ, around 6.3kHz. Overall, the UM3Xs + X1000 is a nice combo with good SQ and non fatiguing long hour listening.

Thank you.
