Is this a good headphone for rap and rock? Read around and seems to have great highs, relative poor mids, but didnt get a consistant impression about the bass. Will it stand up to the test of rap and produce nice bass?

I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but from my experience on the 750 and correspondence through word of mouth, the bass presentation seems to be fuller and slightly punchier with the 750.

oh yeah, that was the other problem... when I searched around, a lot of the impressions I found were the 750, not the 650.

still found a lot on the 650 though, I know it is warmer sounding than the 750

Yeah, we are tend to see the tops models more. (That's why threads about K601 are rare here)

I never heard 750, but for me 650 are not in the same league as 2500. On a main setup - less detail, bass is prominent and strong, but sometimes not correct. Mids are a bit funny, not natural. I had 70 hours of pink noise on them at the time of auditioning.

Very enjoy them from laptop unamped though. Really great sound, I finally found my office cans in 650
