A WORK OF ART
As a premium product, the Edition 8 EX represents the current technical stage of development of ULTRASONE’S headphones. The Edition 8 EX stands for an acoustic, unique sound experience. The outstanding sound performance of this magnificent piece is reflected in its elegant build quality and unique design. The Edition 8 EX combines seeing, touching and wearing to captivate all the senses and create a luxurious work of art.

FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION
The Edition 8 EX design uses the design principle “form follows function” as an elegant embodiment of the functionality of high-end headphones, from excellent wear comfort to the visual reflection of superior acoustic quality through independent design.

STATE OF THE ART
At ULTRASONE, innovation has driven product development from the very beginning. Each set of Edition 8 EX headphones embodies the newest patented findings for spatial sound production: the S-LOGIC surround sound technology has been used exclusively by ULTRASONE for many years and, with the addition of further exclusive, sound-shaping ULTRASONE expertise, can be found again in the Edition 8 EX as S-LOGIC® EX.

PROFILE
The elegant design, as well as the high quality feel of the Edition 8 EX is thanks to the exquisitely processed material.
The ear cups are high gloss, chrome plated and coated with wear-resistant PVD (physical deposition of a thin, hard coating in the vapour phase). The elegantly designed connection mounts on the ear cups bear polished ceramic inlays engraved with the ULTRASONE logo. The ear cushions are secured to the ear cups by magnetic force and can be reliably and easily detached. The ear cushions are made of soft, dark grey, incredibly elegant leather from the Ethiopian long-haired sheep. The same leather also covers the cushioning on the headband, which is crafted from solid aluminium.

THE S-LOGIC® EX SOUNDSCAPE
Our ear is an extraordinarily versatile organ that not only interprets the tones and dynamics of sounds, but also determines
the direction and distance and therefore the three-dimensionality of the sound thanks to the structure of the ear muscle. Three-dimensional sound perception falls by the wayside with conventional headphones, as the sound runs directly into the ear canal.
S-LOGIC uses specially decentralised sound transducers to involve the ear muscle in sound perception and guarantee three-dimensional listening with the headphones.
The Edition 8 EX’s S-LOGIC® EX technology represents the latest stage of development in ULTRASONE’S pioneering S-LOGIC® technology. The EX version from S-LOGIC® projects the sound produced by the decentralised sound transducer by means of an elaborate funnel structure and targets this towards the unique structure of the ear muscle that is responsible for spatial sound. The result is the perception of a perfect, three-dimensional sound that transports the listener directly to the concert hall, jazz club or arena.

I just got these and don't know why they are not more popular among people looking for a TOL closed headphones.
Many years ago I bought the Ultrasone Edition 9 and loved their sound unfortunately they were not very comfortable. The cup size was to big for over the ear and too small for around the ear. Because of this I stop using them often until I finally made my mind to sell them but since then I have been craving their sound.

When the Edition 10 came out I loved their design and comfort but their sound was not my cup of tea. I tried hard to like them (I even bought them twice. The second time with an aftermarket cable) but just couldn't so I kind of gave up on Ultrasone.

A year ago while at RMAF listened to the Edition 5 Unlimited and the Jubilee 25. The Jubilee are beautiful, comfortable and sounds great but at $6,000 seems excessive to me. If they were at the $4,000 level to compete with the Focal Utopia or LCD-4 I would seriously consider them. I tried to settle for the Edition 5 Unlimited but it was clearly far behind in the sound and in my mind not worth the asking price either.

So after one year resisting the Ultrasone bug I decided to investigate about this new Edition 8 EX. I called Drew from Moon Audio to ask about it. He basically told me that the Jubilee was a better headphone for classical music but the Edition 8 EX was a better all rounder. I told him I was looking for a similar sound of the old Edition 9 but with better comfort and his answer was the Edition 8 EX so I pulled the trigger.

The headphones are beautiful, well built and comfortable. The sound was good out of the box but sometimes the bass was a little boomy. Knowing that my Edition 9 needed about 400 hours of burn-in I decided to do the same with these. After the burn-in process the sound got even better. The highs are very crisp and detailed with a liquid midrange and the boominess of the bass got under control. For a close headphones the soundstage is wide and 3 dimensional compared to others. The holographic image that they project is really good and could be the result of the new S-Logic EX (S-Logic with angled drivers).
One of the weaknesses of the previous attempts from Ultrasone to use detachable cables were the connectors. In the case of the Jubilee and the Edition 8 EX they went with a smaller version of the LEMO connectors used in the Focal Utopia. Apparently the part number of this smaller connector is FGG.00.302.CLAD35.

The Edition 8 Ex has become a permanent fixture in my headphones collection and one of my top two go to closed headphones together with the Sony Z1R (with the WireWorld Nano Platinum cable).

If you are looking for a dynamic, punchy, clean sounding and detailed closed headphones I would recommend to give a listen to the Ultrasone Edition 8 EX.

Bismillah

How are these with leakage and isolation? Thanks your input is greatly appreciated. It’s hard to find any info on Ultrasone headphones.

All I've ever read is about a piercing treble to the point of being painful, I've never read any good reviews to this date. But I haven't heard them, maybe they aren't so terrible.

Wondering if anyone would be interested in demo-ing my edition 5 unlimited for the edition 8 EX? I'd like to hear the differences.
