now, i've done my research. i've heard a pair of shure 750dj's...not sure how i felt about them...dont think they were what i'm looking for. what i've read about the ath-m50's suggests they have less accurate bass so i'm not really lookin at those. the hfi-780's are cheaper right now but i read they have less but more accurate bass. what i'm lookin for is a balance between bass quantity and quality (ok maybe a little more quantity than quality

), and something thats somewhat opposite of my grado 325is...ya know...more portable, closed, more bass. love those things but they arent leaving my desk. and please dont suggest sony xb500 or xb700...i've seen their response curve, or should i say response cliff.

so unless someone has a legitimate reason why i should consider another pair of headphones i'm kind of set on buying these if/when they come back down in price.

first question:

So i was set on getting a pair of the ultrasone hfi-580's about a week ago and they were $125. Now i can't find them anywhere for less than $170. is there a reason for this? Most of the reason i was set on these was because they have good reviews, especially for that price. anyone know if they're gonna come back down?

second question:
nobody seems to be selling 580's or 780's (unmodded)...does this mean they're good enough that people dont want to get rid of them? or that nobody owns them to begin with?

Or the older HFI 700's for $149:

Better yet the HFI 780's at Amazon for $151 or $153 shipped:

well i'd like to keep it around $120 to $130. i dont mind buying used if they're unmodded. but from all the reading i just did i'd consider the 580's or the 780's. The 700's i didnt find near my price range, and i dont really like how they look. is it sad that i kinda want the shiny ones so i get noticed? and what are some good websites to buy headphones? i usually end up on amazon but their prices fluctuate a lot.

Why would you need them to be noticeable if they're not leaving your desk? Anyways since you don't mind buying used amazon has a pair of like new 580's for $125 and 780's for $120

the grados arent leaving my desk. i want a pair to take along with me. should have been clearer before. i saw the used pairs on amazon just a little bit ago... but i also saw the price at djdeals that sheffy posted. now debating between the used 780's and new 580's. from what i read the 780's arent really an improvement...just different. any comments on that?
