One of many, many losses ... I don't listen to Country & Western or Death Metal either, for example. Fortunately, there's a seemingly limitless stream of audio pleasure in the genres I do listen to, so I'm not losing any sleep about it. My argument wasn't with Big Band swing, it was with your contention that most people come to jazz through it.

Saying you "wouldn't be caught dead listening to it" sure sounds like an argument with big band swing. I'm glad my standards aren't such that I'd be embarassed to be listening to Ellington and Basie.
