Hi There
 
As a relative newbie (though a passionate newbie, with my HDP and 702), I am still learning and experimenting. I keep hearing people talk of tube amps and solid state amps and the like. I don't even know what my HDP is. What is the difference between these and what is the difference in sound? Is there anything I read?

This question requires an extensive answer and some research.  Here's a good place to start.  Your HDP is a solid state amplifier, by the way.
