Hi

I just bought the LD Mk. III and i would like to try some new tubes. The amp as i remember is standard set for EF95 standard? I therefore have read about these 4:

1) Raytheon 5751
2) GB Sylvania Gold Brands
3) Russian 6Zh1P-EV
4) JHY-6AK5 Hytrons

After reading it sounds like number 1 is the best and then down after, or what is yours opinion?

Under my amp I can switch to EF92 standard, can I just do that without any other change? Because then i would consider that as an option also.

You need to put in jumpers (if yours had jumper. And if you don't have them, they are easy to get from your old computer harddrive, CDROM, floppy drive, etc.) to us EF91 and EF92 tubes. From what I heard from that thread, EF92 & 91 maybe better choice. Personally, the M8083 sounds best to me. It has wide soundstage, very good clarity, and smooth mid and high. They also gets better and better after I burned them in. They make LD MKIII very capable and satisfying AMP (to me). I have not tried any good EF95 though.

The rolling thread is long, but definitely gems are spreading there, which are worth reading.

I think the Russian 6Zh1P-EV are a phenomenal value, as they're fairly cheap compared to how much better they are versus the stock tubes. For EF95's, I really liked the M8100 - a good mix of impact, extension, and detail (though not the best in any of those categories). I found the M8083 (EF91) extremely smooth, to the point of boring and with little bass impact.

Do you have other tubes from ebay or otherplaces i should try?

they both are m8161 "small shield", it is said "large shield" ones are better but I don't see any on ebay..
