I use a pair of Equation RP-21 headphones and I use an HT Omega Claro Halo sound card which has an internal headphone amp. I use my pc as much for music as I do for games and occasionally movies.

I guess I don't have enough education on this kind of thing to know if my setup is doing me any good. Would I be better served to just use an external dac instead of an internal sound card?

I'll put in a vote for an external DAC and an external amp. Personally, I just use the soundcard as a transport with features. I dislike the idea of a soundcard as serving my DAC since I had bad experiences with electrical interference from being inside a box full of other electrical devices and circuit boards.
