What do you see yourself driving in five to ten years? Which ones are on your mind? Name your one dream car.

Definite must haves:
*1998 5.9L V8 Dodge Dakota Sport 4x4 Club Cab (Dodge Red) - everyday vehicle
1965 Mustang Convertible w/ '67 427 motor instead of stock 289 (Factory Poppy Red) - summer vehicle
1970 Dodge Challenger R/T (White) - long trips & joy rides


Wouldn't mind having:
1998 Audi S8 (Green)
2001 BMW M5 (Gray)
1998 Mustang Cobra (Black)
Or if you want to talk Ferraris, I'd rather have 1997 Lotus GT1 <--now that's a supercar

Well.....
I suppose it would have to be a alcohol fired 25 ton traction engine to rumble around in with a huge hi fi and loud whistle to
warn other traffic [if the hi fi is off] of my approach,never stopping
for any thing a constant 12mph immune to all impact.

1. Lincoln Blackwood to tow
Triton TR-22PD Bass Boat with Merc EFI Bridge Port.

2. Mercury Marauder for everyday.

3. Mustang Cobra GT for fun car.

4. Ultimate dream car == Bentley Type R.
Yes CTN, there is a real Type R. Not some little buzzy Honda pretender, but 2 1/2 tons of hand built British cruiser. 0 to 60 in 6 seconds and top end over 150 MPH. With A/C and stereo on. Otherwise, Dead Silence. Also, must be classic Bentley dark green, not BRG.

It's pretty sad, gaineso - why do you have to keep putting down Hondas? Not everyone needs a huge engine to feel good about driving.

Surely even you realize that 2 1/2 tons seriously inhibits the ability of any vehicle, no matter how well engineered, to change its direction?

The car I would like to own now is the Teg Type R 1.8L in 6s !
The car I would like to own in about 10 years would be the (rare limited edition) NSX Type R.

(ah hem Type R). Ive seen it waste "sports" cars with 8L v8s countless times. So when I see a car that goes "BUUURRRRMM BUUUURRRRM !!" and has a big ass engine...I tend to point at them and giggle hehehe. And in wet weather its even more funny

Honda's are great cars, definitely the best from Asia and better than most from Europe. I've said it before. Honda's are great cars. They just aren't the ultimate. Not in any way.

Then again, neither is the Bentley Type R. It's just a luxury car that will outrun and, within the limits of most highways, outperform most sport sedans, while giving it's driver a very good sense of what all 4 tires are doing on the road, what it's very powerful V-8 engine is doing, and all the subtle nuances of whatever music is playing on its Mission audio system, as road and wind noise are not allowed to intrude in any way.

A Honda/Acura Type R, or any other car of that class will surely lose it in town. In town it's ultimate luxury isolation from the problems around you. However, on the open road. No Contest. The big Bentley is designed to cruise at double + the speed limit all day long in perfect control, safety, and comfort. Something no lesser car, including the 3 pointed star can match.

The big Bentley is a Hot Rod Rolls. It's everything that some of the greatest Automotive and Aerospace engineers in the world can make it. Yeah, It's a dream car.

And the Mustang Cobra GT, Retro??? You need to move closer to town where your news doesn't get to you 5 years late.

My next truck will be a run of the mill Toyota T100 with V6/Auto/Air.

When I move back to the Big Island it will be a ground up restored CJ7:

Dana 44 frontend/ Power-Loc
Ford 9" rear/ Detroit Locker
Nat. Spring 10 leaf lift kit
Borg-Warner T18 4 Speed
Dana-Spicer 300 Transfer Case
258 cid fully modded to produce max torque from idle on up

My dream car is the Mercedes SLR though

I dunno if this will happen realistically (as I'm only 17 now w/o much $$$), but lately I've had my eye on some early 80s Datsun 280zx and Mazda RX-7s. Those are pretty neat little sports cars and they're not terribly expensive.

Also my friend has a sweet-ass RX-7 modified for Rally racing. Someday I will drive it...

Being a Gen-X'er, I think my priorities differ from my elders concerning what constitutes "luxury". For them, the elite values of yesteryear were to travel in plush, large, lumbering carriages resembling mobilized french ballrooms. When you're rich, who cares about mileage, handling, or performance, right?

Texas oilman to another: "This here is real baby seal seat covers, Mavis! Pee-yor heaven. Pass th' bourbon!"

Screw that.

My generation values distinction through technological prowess. Innovation is the quality that seperates the elite cars from the heap in 2000+... not the accumulation of material rarities. Plush seats and humpback-whale trimmed glove boxes have little meaning in a high-tech, environmentally-conscious, fast paced world. Why can't these automakers get a freaking clue?

The Dallas Auto Show is going on right now, and I'm confident that Jaguar will still be pandering to an antiquated mindset with their squeaky-ass pumpkinmobiles. The doors SQUEAKED right there on the freaking showroom floor. Impressive stuff. Even Kia mastered this feat. The dashboards were so boring and uninspired, a visit to the wood-paneled Queen Wilhelmina Lodge in Arkansas is elegantly inspirational in comparison. And reliability? Don't make me laugh. My mother's Jag was always in the shop and smelled of mold from leaky body panels... not to mention an electrical nightmare. If the emperor wears no clothes, his tailor's name is Jaguar.

The cars that inspire me are modern, tasteful, and capable. The BMW Z8 roadster is a prime example (which I have gleefully experienced firsthand), as are Volvo's stellar V70 wagons and Lexus's smooth, quiet sedans.

Why can't american cars keep the pace? We've been using gimmicks and gee-whiz BS to sell cars for over 30 years. I've HAD it Chrysler's lack of reliability, Ford's playing-it-safe tactics, and GM's complete lineup of terminally average vehicles. We simply do not treat automaking like the art that it is.

From my experience sampling hundreds of models, it's Lexus, BMW, and Volvo for me. Whether I choose a slant towards high technology, mechanical engineering, or creature comforts, there's a carmaker waiting for me.

Now comes the hard part. Making a decision!

Ok, you guys brought up some nice examples of auto art. What the hell were the GM engineers smoking when they designed the "Avalanche" and the "Aztec" and the new Cadillac sedan??!! Now, this is only my OPINION and if you own one of the aforementioned automobiles/trucks, don't get steamed. Sure looks like they rediscovered the protractor and straight-edge or have been watching a few too many "Robocop" movie reruns. Curves, gentlemen. That is makes a car sexy.

I like fast cars with good names. i hate these number-letter designations. I mean, give me something to SAY when people ask what I drive. Like VIPER. Ooooh, yeah, i drive a VIPER. Or COUNTACH, yeah thats good too, I drive this tricked out black COUNTACH. I like BMW's but I hate their names, "I drive an M3".... ah what? An M3. Oh, this guy over here, he drives a VIPER, I'm dating him, so take your "M3" and go for a long drive thatway *points to the door*. Heh, yeah it COULD happen.
