I have the audio setting to Opt on the FiiO and Audio output settings to Optical on the PS3.  I am getting sound through the cans when I flick around the Playstation options.  Once the game has started there is no audio anymore.  Battlefield 4 is the game.  Thanks to anyone who can help!

the e17 only does stereo,just use 88.2 khz
 
not sure if 176.4 khz will work (been a while)

I'm just guessing, but are there any settings in the PS3 for PCM vs Dolby/DTS? Try making sure you have it set to a 2-channel format.
